With a lifetime of equine experience covering many disciplines having been involved with the riding, training and care of horses from a very young age, Competing on PC teams, progressing to BHS eventing, BSJA and dressage.
I was lucky enough to have trained with some very experienced coaches including Major Birtwistle (FBHS) Harrogate EC, Ann Hammond Millfields. A Schoolmaster dressage horse 'Upsala" gave me the opportunity to experience advanced movements. I have also worked with P2P, National Hunt & Flat racehorses, from breaking/backing yearlings, stalls training, riding work and jump schooling. I have retrained a large number of ex racehorses to go into new careers. I was first introduced to showing when my children started competing on the lead rein over 25 yrs ago!
The professional production of horses, ponies and their riders, inspired my interest in 'Equine Biomechanics'. Analysis of conformation movement and muscle structure of each horse, then combining this with science and art of feeding. Studying equine anatomy helped me create individual training regimes for each horse. Hacking, schooling and lunging, combined with physical therapy all played a part in producing horses and ponies at the highest level. Working with my daughter Sophie we enjoyed success taking many championships from LR to WHP at top level including winning at the Horse of the Year Show, in 2009. I trained as a NST Bowen Practitioner in Switzerland with Christine Pilloy Advanced NST Human & Equine Practitioner - Equine Bowen (ECBS). Training covers in-depth anatomy, physiology, equine behaviour, biomechanics and natural horsemanship. |
On completing my academic education I took over the management of the family yard, we had a number of brood mares and a TB stallion at stud.
I developed the business into a busy riding school, gaining valuable teaching/training skills plus equine and business management. In the early nineties based on Castle Howard Estate I started a livery and competition yard, stabling up to 30 horses. Offering full & hunting livery, breaking & schooling. Also teaching clients and training working pupils towards BHS exams. I graduated from Bishop Burton College (Hull Uni) studying part time a BTEC HNC in Equine Science with Business Management, achieving the 'Top Student Award' in addition to completing my BHSAI teaching qualification with Alec & Charlotte Lyall BHSI. Teaching freelance for many years. |
